the complete trilogy by s.M.Henley

Dark Urban rising

The heat is rising. Cities are falling. As demons claw their way above ground to take control of a billion human souls, a renegade angel is plotting her own bid for power. Three dare to defy her: a half-vampire girl, a millionaire playboy, and an ex-soldier turned demon assassin. They each have their own desolate paths to follow. But, in the face of ultimate evil, can they come together to stop the angel’s victory?

While each book has its own climax, this ... is a most satisfying read. I’ve read a considerable amount of urban fantasy and this one is right up there with the best. The characters are original and each one has her/his appeal and an interesting character arc. The plot keeps you turning pages through this dark world where demons are gaining on humans. I recommend the entire series.

SCROLL TO SEE THE BOOKS IN THE DARK URBAN RISING SERIES

What are readers saying about the Dark Urban Rising trilogy

Scratching in the Dirt [Fighting Spirit] managed to surprise me a couple of times, had me reaching for the tissues *sniff*, recoiling in horror at the brutality and chuckling out loud. Throughout this book, I found myself desperate to find out what would happen next, staying up late to finish just one more chapter, in other words I was gripped!
An unexpected gem of a hook! I got this first of a series free through Bookbub or something like that. Anyway, as from prior experience, I didn't expect much. I was so pleasantly surprised! Anastasia is a half-vamp assassin with a soul on lockdown in the middle of a dystopian world overrun by demons. She's only just gotten free of her cruel demon father to find out she has to rescue him in his afterlife. Not only that, but she's on the run from her unkillable ex-lover Soren, who comes after her like the terminator. Or does he? The story is complex and twisty, with a rather shocking ending. Can't wait to read the next in the series!

This second offering of the series finds Billy getting in touch with his inner being, Soren hopelessly chasing after Tazia, Tazia getting in touch with her inner bad girl, and Cuinn not exactly where we left him. A worthy sequel to the first book.

Just finished Book 3 of the Written by Birds [Dark Urban Rising] Trilogy by S.M.Henley. While each book has its own climax, this one really ends all three stories, which is why I am posting one review after the final installment. This is a most satisfying read. I’ve read a considerable amount of urban fantasy and this one is right up there with the best. The characters are original and each one has her/his appeal and an interesting character arc. The plot keeps you turning pages through this dark world where demons are gaining on humans. I recommend the entire series.

This third book in the Written by Birds series focuses on Soren's inner world. Oy, the things that boy has gone through! There's a triple-cross afoot here, only who is crossing whom?

Amazing! This has to be one of the best books in this type ... the plot is tight, I found myself caring for the characters ... Tazia is a character with a past, which makes you both love her and hate her ... The thrills keep on coming, the action is palpable and the explosions are loud! ...

Excellent dystopian fantasy!

Okay. This first book in the series sets up a world order of humans, magic, demons of all kinds, vampires, and fallen angel. There are no good guys. So we follow along while half and half Tazia does her life and her business which could take her life. Family situation is confusing and she is determined to do right, first for her Father( a definite bad guy who wants to sit at Satan's side, then her friend Billy, then a well liked demon/ job, and last her pretend lover and business partner until they are not. She has so many difficulties, decisions, and her goals just might be changing(coming of age?). The action adventure and danger once started continue until I was quite engaged at the end. And the story goes on.....

Take that, demons! It takes a lot of skill to take a tired concept ... and craft a story that's truly enjoyable. I might have said it was impossible to do so, until I read Scratching in the Dirt [Fighting Spirit]. There was just something about this book that pulled me and kept me turning the pages. I really dug Tazia's whole character, BAMF to the max ...

Fresh take on a ... predictable genre. Well written action, three dimensional characters and a flawed heroine equals a book that was devoured rather quickly...
